Plav Lake lies at about 906 m at the foot of Prokletije and the Visitor mountain, right next to the town of Plav. It is often described as the largest glacial lake in Montenegro, and it is the natural base for hikes to Hrid Lake, Grebaje and Vusanje.
Na crnogorskomPlav Lake formed in a glacial basin between the Prokletije range and Visitor mountain. It is about 2.2 km long and just under 1 km wide, with a surface of about 2 km² and a maximum depth of around 9 m. The river Lim leaves the lake towards Andrijevica and Berane.
The lake and the Lim and Grnčar valleys are listed as an Important Bird Area, so bring binoculars in spring and autumn.
Fixed-price transfers from Plav and Gusinje to every trailhead in Prokletije, with pickup after your hike.
Plav is about 2.5–3 hours by road from Podgorica Airport. There are buses from Podgorica and from Berane, but connections onward to the villages and trailheads are limited, so many visitors book a transfer from the airport or from Plav to the trailhead.
